Role of Secondary Cities in Territorial Development -Implications for the National Spatial Strategy

A recently launched ESPON Applied Research Project is focussing on the role of secondary cities or ‘growth poles’ in territorial development. This project asks to what extent a territorial strategy (such as the NSS) which favours balanced and sustainable territorial development is feasible in the context of current challenges and what specific role secondary cities can play in delivering balanced regional development. The project will deliver its final report in early 2012 but interim reports and presentations will be available before then.
