ESPON is supported by a small Coordination Unit based in Esch-sur-Alzette in Luxembourg. The substantive content and research priorities for ESPON are determined by a Monitoring Committee, consisting of representatives of government ministries with responsibility for spatial planning/territorial cohesion. The Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government represents Ireland on the Monitoring Committee. An ESPON Contact Point Network is responsible for promoting the promoting engagement with ESPON research by local and regional authorities, research institutions, spatial planning consultants and other stakeholders. NIRSA, the National Institute for Regional and Spatial Analysis at National University of Ireland Maynooth is the ESPON Contact Point (ECP) for Ireland. The ECP function is funded by the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government. The work of the ESPON Contact Point is also supported by the International Centre for Local and Regional Development (ICLRD).
